You can rent a DPV and enjoy an independent underwater adventure along Bonaire’s beautiful reefs.
Not certified yet? No problem.
Join instructor Toine Smulders for a guided DPV experience. In small groups of 2 to 10 participants, you’ll first receive a one-hour introduction session in shallow water to learn safe handling and control. Afterward, we head out for an exciting guided dive to explore the reef using your DPV.

1️⃣ Do I need to be an experienced diver to join the Lionfish Hunt?
No. Our Lionfish Hunt Course is designed for both beginner and experienced divers.
You must be a certified diver (Open Water or higher), and comfortable in open water. We adapt the training and supervision level to your experience.
2️⃣ Is lionfish hunting safe?
Yes. Safety is our top priority.
You will receive a detailed theory session and a dry workshop on safe equipment handling before entering the water. All dives are supervised by instructor Toine Smulders, and we use approved lionfish removal equipment.
3️⃣ What certification do I receive?
After successfully completing the Lionfish Hunt Course, you will be trained in safe and responsible lionfish hunting techniques.

4️⃣ Why do we hunt lionfish?
Lionfish are an invasive species in the Caribbean and have no natural predators in this region. They reproduce rapidly and threaten coral reef ecosystems by preying on native fish.
By removing lionfish, we actively contribute to protecting Bonaire’s marine biodiversity.
5️⃣ What equipment is used during the hunt?
We use approved and environmentally responsible lionfish removal tools.
All equipment is provided during the course. Regular dive gear is not included unless otherwise arranged.

After proper handling and preparation, it is completely safe to consume — and removing lionfish helps restore reef balance.
9️⃣ What should I bring?
Bring your dive certification, swimwear, towel, sunscreen, and personal dive gear (if not renting).
We recommend arriving well-rested and hydrated.

The big Invasion of the Lionfish
The Lionfish is a big Problem. Lionfish are an invasive species in the Atlantic Ocean. Lionfish prey on native fish species and have been shown to reduce native fish populations on some reefs by more than 90%.
*Lionfish eat more than 30 different species of fish, eat their own kind, and are capable of eating up to fish two-thirds there size.
*One female spawns around 27.000 eggs every 2,5 days, Larger females spawn more than 100.000 eggs
